アラバマ州バーミンガムからST.PAUL & THE BROKEN BONESが初来日を果たした。
東京・大阪と各１日ずつの公演。
今回の最後の公演となるビルボードライブ東京２セット目を観ることが出来た。
初来日の記念としてコースターが置かれプレゼントされた。
本国では話題になっているものの、日本ではまだまだ無名の彼ら
さすがに２階、３階は空席が目立ったようだったが、どっこいステージはそんなことは気にしない、素晴らしいものだった。
ほとんどの曲をショートスケールのベースで演奏していた。
それにしても、何て素敵な音楽なのだろう
懐かしい音なのに新しい
それが彼らの演奏に対する一番の感想だ。
そして情熱溢れるステージ
ボーカリストのポール・ジェーンウェイは近年まれにみる歌唱力を持ったボーカリストだと思った。
ファルセットからシャウトまで、変幻自在に正確な音程でどんどん歌い進む。
ノリノリのソウルナンバーで一気に熱せられたかと思えば、バラードで聴かせる。
ショウの終盤では２階席の崖っぷちを練り歩きそこから歌うなど、視覚的にも楽しませてくれた。
ショウのあと、サイン会があり、少しだけポール氏と話すことが出来た。
私は彼に「南部音楽の未来は明るいと感じた」と伝えた。
これからの活躍がとても楽しみだ。

From Birmingham, Ala. ST. PAUL & THE BROKEN BONES made their first visit to Japan.
A performance of Tokyo and Osaka each one day.
I was able to watch the second set of Billboard Live Tokyo, which will be their last show of Japan tour.
Although they are hot topic in their home country, they are still unknown in Japan
The second and third floors seemed to have empty seats, but the stage was great, they didn’t seem to care about that.
What a wonderful music
It is new though it is nostalgic sound
That is the best impression of their performance.
And a stage full of passion
I think that vocalist Paul Jane Way is a vocalist with a singing ability that I rarely see in recent years.
From farset to shout, it sings in an unrealistically accurate pitch.
If I think I was heated up with hot soul number at once, I listened to it in a ballad.
At the end of the show, Paul walked up the cliff on the second floor and sing from there, which made us visually enjoyable.
After the show, there was a autograph session and I was able to talk with Paul a little.
I told him, “I felt the future of southern music is bright.”
I look forward to their success.
